Social Media and Your Brain | Dave Heney

The world of social media, phone apps, internet sites, podcasts, and streaming services are enormously popular. You can easily access any number of sources that will send you exactly what you are looking for, whether for business, school, relationships, or just entertainment. But how do they affect your brain?

    Hello Father Dave,

“The world of social media, phone apps, internet sites, podcasts, and streaming services are enormously popular. You can easily access any number of sources that will send you exactly what you are looking for, whether for business, school, relationships, or just entertainment. ” Therefore, I am deeply troubled by this and would like to express my troubled concerns to you father Dave.. I am worry our children will take too many classes without learning and gasping the basics knowledge, and earn a 4 years degree later. All using AI Technology.. Please help father.

Your concerns are justified. Stay in touch with your children. Daily conversations about any topic are the best.

On the positive side, I appreciate being able to google and get an instant answer to my factual questions, on the spot. I also sharpen my debate skills having to present my views in a very concise manner on a political, moral or social issue on a forum such as X.
On the negative side, people can get really nasty when they are discussing a subject with an anonymous person. Insult takes the place of a thought out, informed argument.
As an older adult, with already developed critical thinking skills, a good moral compass and life experiences, social media does not pose a threat. My concern is for young people who are still developing their reasoning skills and developing a sense of right and wrong. As a parent, you would want to monitor and control what they are exposed to that could have very negative effects.

Yes, concerns about today’s youth are justified. I am glad some of the companies are installing more safeguards.

    Father Dave,

Timely article. What is interesting to note is that I am more likely to watch a short video from 1-5 minutes long to gain some information or knowledge for the day, commonly called “Shorts.” I believe Prager U and other models that follow that platform may be the future on our education system in order to keep a persons attention span. The “sound bite” has been around for years. we as critical thinkers need to know when that piece of information appears misleading and continue to pursue original sources when possible. As the rock bad The Who cried out, “we won’t get fooled again!”

Yes, I agree. TikTok became popular for having videos only ten to fifteen seconds long! All I ask is that people also schedule in personal and quiet thinking time for themselves.
