Gospel Reflections for September 29 2024
Getting home safely
When traffic is heavy and you want to get home, You are happy to drive on any road if it gets you safely back to your loved ones. Jesus shows that same resourcefulness in today’s Gospel.
Jesus was very practical about His mission. You can use that same wisdom facing today’s moral challenges as well. However, there is so much blocking your path today.
Jesus had a single focus on your salvation and would let no obstacle interfere. In the same way, you should have a single focus on meeting Him, whether in prayer, the sacraments, or scriptures, and never let anything block your way.
Only Jesus can make your life more satisfying so you should never allow anything to interfere with meeting Our Lord. Today’s Gospel is a graphic parable about that single-minded focus.
Simply put, if anything is in the way of your meeting the Lord, you should cut it off and remove it. If something is helping …then add more of it!
Pope John Paull once was asked this question. If all bibles in the world were confiscated …but you had the right to retain only one verse …what would it be? He instantly replied, John 8:32, The truth will make you free.
There are so many new ideas today that directly obstruct the moral teachings we have received from Our Lord, about marriage, gender, the unborn, and even the Eucharist. We need to know the truth about each issue.
With the help of Our Lord, you should always speak the truth, always speak respectfully, but always speak courageously the truth about marriage, gender, the unborn, and the Eucharist. Nothing should ever stop your faithful witness to the truth of Jesus and His Kingdom of love. (See all my articles)
All the articles I write, the programs I promote, the homilies you hear, and the services we have at St. Bruno are designed to help you authentically meet the Lord, the source of all the moral teachings that you need to find lasting happiness in life.
The very purpose of St. Bruno is that personal meeting with Our Lord. I will continue to cut away anything that hinders …and also add anything that helps you connect with that source of true and lasting happiness.
Together we will arrive happily and safely at our eternal home.
God Bless!
Fr. Dave

Your comments about the Truth setting us free are the Key to successful living in this and every age. I see those twisting it to fit their desires or life style in conversation and Media coverage. Regardless of how it is twisted the Truth is the Truth and does not change.
Our Faith continues to remind us and instruct us in this Fact.
The Right to Life, Reception of the Eucharist, adoption of the Commandments and decrees found in our Holy Scriptures provide a Path of Life that is Beneficial to our Body and Soul.
Paid attention to and followed lead to happiness and fulfillment.
Thanks Father Dave for all you do in reminding us of this Treasure that we as Catholics Possess. Prayers for you and all those following Vocations are fitting.

Yes, the truth will set us free. Pope JPII believed that is the path to eternal life. We live the truth, we speak the truth, and we love God, others, and ourselves no matter what.
