Gospel Reflections for May 25 2025

Be bold!

Jesus tells His disciples that He will soon leave, but the Holy Spirt will soon come to strengthen them. I am sure they were happy to hear that!

The early church had many serious challenges, so they needed to hear of this Holy Spirit arrival. The surrounding culture was either pagan, Jewish, or even antagonistic to any religion. Yet, what does Jesus tell His disciples to do in that challenging world?

He tells them to boldly stand up and courageously live their faith …and precisely in that non-Christian world!

The Holy Spirit would provide the boldness and courage they needed. That mission to be bold has never changed.

I am glad that in recent months we have wonderfully celebrated key events where young people boldly stand up and profess their faith in very public ways, just as Jesus asks.

We witnessed over 170 young people receive their First Holy Communion. As Jesus gives Himself to them in the Eucharist Our Lord invites them to give of themselves in love in the same way to those around them. The Holy Spirit will help.

We witnessed over 100 teenagers receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. They know it is not enough just to believe in Jesus. They know that true followers of Our Lord must also publicly show their faith in their daily behavior as well. There are no “invisible” Christians! The Holy Spirit will help them.

Last weekend we also celebrated our annual parish SpringFest with exciting rides, delicious food booths and fun games. It was the most successful SpringFest ever and with the highest attendance. Over 31,000 people entered the gates during the three days! All the bands were outstanding. It was a great celebration of our parish community. We are already planning for next year.

I was so impressed at the dedication of everyone there, especially our SpringFest Team, along with our booth captains, volunteers, and our wonderful security team. When people believe in the goodness of what they are doing, nothing will stop them! Their bold dedication was clear for all to see.

Our Lord does not call you to safety …but to courage. Today’s Gospel is Our Lord’s call to you to make your faith visible to those around you. No worries…

You have the awesome power of Holy Spirit with you always!

God Bless!

    Dear Father Dave,

“When people believe in the goodness they’re doing, nothing will stop them.”

Truer words were never spoken. Yes, I believe that.

It is Christ’s message in a nutshell, at least part of it!

    God bless!

    Kathleen
