Gospel for May 22 2022 – John 14:23-29
Gospel Reflections for May 22 2022
Be bold!
This is a great Gospel to hear on this SpringFest weekend!
Jesus tells His disciples that He will leave soon, but that the Holy Spirt will also come soon to strengthen them. That is good news they needed to hear!
The early church had serious challenges so they needed this Holy Spirit power. Their culture was either pagan, Jewish, or even against any religion. What does Jesus want His disciples to do in that challenging world?
He sends them boldly out to stand up and courageously live their Catholic faith …and precisely into that very non-Christian world! The Holy Spirit would provide the boldness and courage they needed. That mission to be bold has never changed.
Our world today is rocked by war in Ukraine, shocking mass shootings here, and economic shortfalls. That same Holy Spirit will keep us steady and firm in our faith in our time as well.
Jesus promises exactly what we need. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
There will always be sinful people and sinful world leaders who do evil things and cause much sadness. The peace that Jesus gives is an inner confidence and courage to live our life of love no matter what bad people do. No need for your heart to be troubled!
We recently celebrated inspiring events at St. Bruno, where young people boldly stood up and professed their faith in very public ways …even in this crazy world.
Over 100 young people received First communion. As Jesus gives Himself to them in the Eucharist, Our Lord invites them to give of themselves in love to those around them. The Holy Spirit will help!
Over 120 teenagers received the Sacrament of Confirmation. They now know that true followers of Jesus always show their faith in their daily behavior no matter what other people do. The Holy Spirit will help!
This weekend we celebrate our parish Spring Fest with great Tribute Bands, some new and exciting rides, delicious food, great games, and of course, the Car Raffle. We boldly choose to celebrate this time in a happy and fun environment of family, friends, and faith.
This is the peace that Our Lord gives that dwells deep inside and ensures our hearts will never be troubled. That is good news indeed!
God Bless!

Words of comfort. Thank you. The message of Jesus is for everyone making us all brothers and sisters of
Jesus with one Father. So inclusive and reassuring to a very troubled world.

Yes, we believe that Jesus is always the right answer.
Diane says
As Christ said: “Not as the world gives do I give to you.” Well, the world cannot give us all of the answers to the turbulence that is happening today. However, if we pray, the Holy Spirit can give us peace, wisdom, and a light by which to dream. So let’s not get discouraged, because we can live in the promise and love of the Holy Spirit.
Father Dave says
Thanks for writing a great message of hope!
