Gospel for May 19 2024 – John 20:19-23
Gospel Reflections for May 19 2024
Everything I need to know I learned at SpringFest.
The Holy Spirit came upon the disciples in today’s Gospel with great power and wisdom. There is also much wisdom to learn in our SpringFest rides, games, and raffle this weekend!
I watch the Ferris wheel go round and round. If you are on it, you will experience, for a while, that you are all the way at the top. From there you get a beautiful and peaceful view of the night sky. Everyone else, and maybe any challenges you are facing can seem a long way down. It would be nice to stay up there!
But then the wheel turns, and brings you slowly back to ground, where you are once again in the confusing lights and loud noises of the crowd …and then the wheel turns again toward the top …in a rhythm of highs and lows.
I therefore no longer panic when I face challenges. I know that bad times do not last, and that eventually the wheel will turn, and good times will return again. Nor does my head get big when everything is going well, because in that great rhythm of life, I will have to face challenges again. Our Ferris Wheel teaches a lot!
I know that game booth prizes and the $10,000 raffle prize will not just place themselves in my hands. I have to step right up and try throwing the ball, tossing the ring, or pitching the dime, and of course, the $10,000 can only go to one who buys a ticket.
The good things in life belong to those who get in the game. I may not win a stuffed animal, but I will try!
I also learn a lot from those who just like to sit and enjoy a meal and drinks with family and friends. They have also gotten in the game in a wonderful way by taking time to spend with people they like, or even people they just met, and enjoy the music and fun together.
Finally, I have learned the most from those who have worked so hard to create and operate our SpringFest, and all of the hundreds of volunteers who offer their time and talents to make SpringFest happen each day. I respect and admire those volunteers a great deal. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude.
I am glad SpringFest is finally here. It offers much wisdom!
God Bless!

You certainly get a lot out of attending and appreciating your delightful and renewing Spring fest. Your Ferris Wheel is like our Faiths Liturgical Calendar. Bringing to mind the Joys and Sorrows of different events we observe and continue to learn from.
Pentecost is one of my Favotites imagining the tongues of fire eminating from peoples heads indicating the presence of an indwelling of the Holy Spirit descending into us.
I watch babies being Baptised and receiving the Gift of the Holy Spirit.
We have such great celebrations and Sacraments to enjoy ,Cherish and partake of in our Faith. Bringing appreciation and Joy in communication and Thanksgiving for all the Blessings we enjoy.
Thanks Father Dave for these Weekly Reminders.

I love the analogy of the “ ups & downs” of the Spring Fest activities to real life. It paints a picture of resilience, persistence & joys of real life.
Thank you, Fr Dave & good luck with throwing the ball, tossing the ring & pitching the dime. 🙂

Be good to mention that the Pope will be interviewed on Sixty Minutes Sunday Night. I plan on listening so I can try to answer questions from my friends of other denominations and beliefs and discuss it with my fellow Catholic Brothers and Susters.
