Gospel Reflections for June 15 2025: HOLY TRINITY

Gospel for June 15 2025 – John 16:12-15

Gospel Reflections for June 15 2025

How to start …everything!

On this Father’s Day weekend we also celebrate the Trinity, and how we begin every prayer,  “In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.” Why do we start that way?

Whenever you speak “in the name” of someone you are speaking in the same way and with the same intentions as that person would speak too.

When you start a prayer, you want your words to match the intentions of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Is my prayer the kind of prayer that the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit would want? God is love, and so every prayer must express a purpose that arises from authentic love.

So, what is love? In words and deeds, you seek the authentic good of another person, as God would want for them.

Holy Trinity Sunday not only affirms how you begin prayers, but also how you can begin your day as well.

Imagine living your life “In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit” too, and always behaving with authentic love for others.

You can begin every conversation, business meeting, phone call, family meal, and even every internet visit with these powerful and inspirational words.

Can you imagine how many problems would be solved if your words, actions, and intentions always began “In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?” Maybe one day they will even end all wars. We can certainly hope.

Love can sometimes mean correcting another person for their bad behavior. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it is done with an attitude of love, which means sincerely seeking to help this person live the fuller life that God is calling them to.

This is a great message for fathers especially on this weekend. Of course, bad behavior often can instill anger and hurtful emotions.

Nevertheless, your motive can never be revenge or punishment, but only your help to turn bad behavior around to good. If they change, then all is well. If not, just move on, as Our Lord recommends in Luke 10: 10-11. Jesus tells us to never let another person’s lack of love affect your love.

Here is your plan beginning today. Start every prayer …and every event of your day “In the name of love …in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit!”

God Bless!
