Gospel Reflections for January 28 2024

Gospel for January 28 2024 – Mark 1:21-28

Gospel Reflections for January 28 2024

Jesus speaks to the devil…

He speaks with authority and supreme self-confidence. Could you do that if you met an evil spirit? Would you feel lost and afraid about how to respond?

I remember the story of a farmer standing by the side of a country road. A sports car from the city roars up and skids to a stop next to him. The impatient driver yells, “Hey farmer! I’m lost here. Do you know how to get to the freeway?” The farmer calmly thinks and replies, “Nope.” The driver responds, “Well, you have got to be the dumbest farmer I ever met! I am lost here and you cannot help! Don’t you know anything at all!?” The farmer calmly thinks and says, “Well …I know I’m not lost!”

Jesus was never lost or afraid in facing any evil. He knew precisely who He was and how to respond. There is no parable, story, or long teaching here. Jesus simply says, Get out! The evil spirit understood that perfectly … and left!.

You can have that same self-confidence and authority of Jesus by coming to understand the person of Our Lord in your own life in The University Series coming soon during the season of Lent.

We will have 50 different sessions hosted at St. Bruno, St. Mary’s, and Beatitudes Churches from Thursday, February 15th to Friday, March 22nd. You can pre-register for sessions  at theuniversityseries.org. (Website goes live January 27th at 4pm) You can also access it at our parish website at stbrunochurch.org.

All courses are designed to help you connect faith with real life, and confront any challenges you might face, with His same grace, self-confidence, and authority.

Check out the courses online or in the Catalogs at the doors of the Church.  I am sure some will jump out at you and say, “This is the course for me right now!”

Our own St. Bruno Catholic School and Faith & Family Ministry Programs also equip our students every day with knowledge, wisdom and grace to face every challenge as well.

This week we celebrate the amazing work our two schools do every day in forming the next generation to face the world with confidence.

We admire people who have this confidence, and you can have it for yourself …from Our Lord.

This week we celebrate our schools …and during Lent …we’ll see you in The University Series!

God Bless!

Thank you Fr. Dave, for your convincing reflection in Jesus showing
resistance to the devil and that we too with His Presence
    can do the same.

Interesting Gospel this week with Jesus having a conversation with the Evil Spirit and it caused quite an. uproar in the Region of Galilee. His Fame spread everywhere. A new Teaching with Authority. I found pit interesting that the evil Spirit recognized him and knew who He was. The Holy One of God.
We as well must tell evil spirits the same thing Resisting the wares and rewards they dangle before us trying to knock us off the correct Path to Eternal Salvation.
Catholic Schools are so very important in giving us the way to resist Evil in the World we live in. Thanks again Father Dave for Your reminders every week.

    Hi, Fr. Dave,

Thanks. I’m really looking forward to diving into the list of courses as always. Ironically, this year I will do so with heavy heart at the news that my alma mater, La Reina is closing its doors abruptly at the end of the school year. We are trying to make sense of this and get answers as it appears the board (newly installed last week) does not appear to be interested in any fundraisers or even selling the school as a co-op. We desperately need decent, quality education at this dire time. I pray the school will re-consider its decision for the sake of our community’s children.

    Dear Father Dave,

The cunning voice of evil is the screech of contempt and corruption.

Once again, the world needs Christ’s command of “Get out!”

    Our prayers can help!

So happy to see The University Series coming to a large number of parishes. These meaningful, inspiring courses touch many hearts.

Thank you for all you have done over the years .

    God bless you.

    Kathleen
