Gospel Reflections for February 8 2026
Show your team colors!
Jesus describes His disciples as a light to the world …and meant for all to see!
All across the nation this Super Bowl Sunday, over 100 million sports fans are also showing their team colors with banners, hats, and clothes. They are happy to let everyone know what team they are on!
Sports fans often show amazing enthusiasm and courage in showing team loyalty. They never let comments of opposing fans deter or silence them. They are true to the home team!
The Super Bowl will be over late Sunday afternoon …and then what?
The Season of Lent will be here soon, and it is a serious and thoughtful time of personal reflection about yourself. Do you celebrate your Catholic faith with the same enthusiasm as a sports team? If so, great! If not …now is the time to think thoughtfully about that.
When Jesus says that His disciples are a light to the world, he means that there are no invisible Christians, and that your faith must be obvious, visible, and clear to all those around you. No one should ever have to guess if you are Christian or not.
Never doubt how powerful your behavior is, even if you are never personally aware of it. People see your behavior every day, even from a distance, and they can either be inspired and seek to even imitate you, or become scandalized and wonder why you act the way that you do.
You probably have the faith that you have now because of the great example of faith filled people in your family or those who you were close to. Their faith was not hard for you to see! You can be that same kind of person now that inspires those around you.
We have just the right program for you and your family in The University Series to help make that happen. (theunversityseries.org)
This is the time to seek Our Lord’s wisdom for your life and perhaps to make the changes you need to find the happiness that is Our Lord’s will for you. Decide to attend The University Series sessions every night during Lent. Make this your major effort to meet the Lord.
Just as every sports team acquires athletic skills through instruction and practice, so you will acquire the life skills from Our Lord to live in your world with confidence, courage, and peace.
God Bless!
Fr. Dave
