Gospel for January 18 2026 – John 1:29-34
Gospel Reflections for January 18 2026
There is the Lamb of God…
John the Baptist shouts that out when he sees Jesus at the Jordan River. It is a shorthand way of recognizing Jesus as the divine Savior of the world.
The crowd was impressed, and all would have turned to look at Jesus. They also knew that a “lamb of God” would eventually be sacrificed in the temple. John affirms that Jesus will give His life for your salvation. Yet Jesus seemed supremely confident He would accomplish this mission.
How would you feel if someone shouted about you, “There is a Catholic!” Would you accept it, or try to hide it? How much would you sacrifice?
You may not feel confident to show your Catholic faith if you do not know it well. I see that often in our school students. Whenever I ask a question, I see some instantly raise their hands eager to respond while others sink in their seats …trying to be invisible! Those who have studied and know …cannot wait to show what they know!
If you do not feel well prepared, well, this is your fortunate time! Next week we are distributing our 2026 University Series Catalogs for our large multi-parish adult education program during the Season of Lent. It begins on Thursday, February 19th, the day after Ash Wednesday.
You will discover over 40 sessions that connect your Catholic faith with real life, such as Marriage and Family issues, Current Events, and Modern Moral Issues. I will also speak on my favorite topics on Biblical Archaeology, and Faith and Science, along with some brand new talks.
Former Angels Manager, Mike Scioscia will also return again, and Fr. Robert Spitzer, the smartest person I have ever known, will speak on why God allows suffering. This is your time to discover God’s wisdom for your life.
Classes are $8 at the door, and you can bring a friend for free. Next week, you can also pre-register at theuniversityseries.org for only $5 per class, and always bring a friend for free.
Decide now to make this Lent your time to become prepared and learn your faith as an adult and in a way that is easy to understand. Every session is designed to take all your questions as well.
Our Lord is calling you now to know and live your faith clearly …and with conviction.
See you in the University Series!
God Bless!
Fr. Dave
