Gospel for February 25 2024 – Mark 9: 2-10

Gospel Reflections for February 25 2024

He led them out…

Jesus invites three special Apostles, Peter, James, and John, and led them out to a high mountain where He is suddenly “transfigured” before their eyes. No one today really knows what “transfigured” means, but we know those startled Apostles felt profoundly moved and satisfied. They did not want to leave!

Sudden flashes of insight can be wonderful. We wish they would last longer too. I have met many engaged couples who told me they felt amazing and transforming feelings of “love at first sight.” Yet none of them got married that same day!

They knew they needed more knowledge about each other. They spent months and perhaps even years getting to know the other person well. They educated themselves on their partner. Sudden insight should lead to a desire for more education. Jesus invited His three disciples to do just that. He led them back down from that mountain for further training.

The Latin word used to describe what Jesus did is educere which means to lead out. It is the root source of our English word education. An educated person is literally one who has been led out of not knowing what is going on to a deeper understanding. Lent is your time to seek the rewarding work of education, especially now in this time of conflicts whether in Ukraine, Israel, or the cultural battles in our own country.

This is the perfect Gospel for The University Series that is now in its second week, as well as all the other helpful resources you can easily access at stbrunochurch.org

I hope you have a desire for knowledge especially with so many challenges today for your family. All our St. Bruno resources offer practical ideas in these areas.

All are designed to lead you out of unknowing and into deeper knowledge and clearer understanding. They connect faith with real life. Once you understand things better, you can make wise decisions about how to live and take care of your family, and especially how to deepen your relationship with God.

Coming soon in The University Series are talks on a whole range of issues on faith and current events, family life, scripture, spirituality, and morality.

Let yourself be Led Out by Our Lord into a new and clearer understanding of yourself, your faith, and the world today. See all the great resources just for you this Lent.

God Bless!

Transfiguration is certainly a very special event to occur in the lives of those experiencing it. Compares to what our Brothers and Sisters in various cases call Born Again experiences but a bit more Dramatic with a Cloud speaking to us from a Mountain top and Jesus lighting up in brilliant glowing light.. what a magnificent experience.
This further increased the Faith of those present and witnessing it occur. We observe celebrating it this Sunday and called upon to delve a bit further into our personal fasting, praying and alms giving for those less fortunate souls that need our assistance.
Let’s make this time of Lent beneficial and do what needs to be done.

The 1st Reading we find that Abraham is tested by God, or rather, educated. He actually past the Lord’s test by obeying His command.

In the 2nd Reading, St Paul tells us that Jesus who also obeyed the will of God, and then died & rose to life; is now interceding for us unto eternity.

In this Sunday’s Gospel, Peter, James, and John kept pondering what was meant by Jesus’ words–rising from the dead.

I guess getting educated and tested for what we’ve learned is perhaps a Christian process of discipleship?

Yes, indeed, and it is a lifelong process of education for sure.
