Gospel Reflections for June 6 2021
You have a lot going on!
Today we celebrate receiving the person of Jesus in the Eucharist at Mass. (Corpus Christi is Latin for Body of Christ).
This Mass arrives at just the right time too. As we emerge out of the pandemic, maybe you still feel uncertain emotions or worries about your family, your work, school, or other issues. All are perfectly understandable to Our Lord. He knows you have a lot going on!
It is in precisely those areas of your deep concern that Our Lord would like to help and offers Himself to you for that purpose of providing the grace and wisdom you need …right now.
The words of consecration, in effect, say that clearly, “I give myself to you completely right now, my body and blood, my entire self, and all for your lasting happiness.”
Our Lord does not consider your thoughts about your life as distractions, but rather as the immediate things that you have to deal with right now, and it is in those areas that Our Lord most wants to help with His grace. If they are important to you, then they are important to Our Lord as well!
The moment of communion conveys that message well. He places Himself directly in your hands. He places Himself directly into your life and just as you need most at that moment.
Your first reaction must be humble gratitude. That is why you bow just before receiving. Some even kneel. After receiving, you go back to our seat and use that time well to talk with Our Lord who is now inside you.
You are free to kneel or sit right away in quiet contemplation of His presence within you. This is the time to hear what Our Lord has to personally say to you precisely about all those issues that you walked into Church with at the beginning of Mass!
Our faith is not nostalgia, or merely looking back 2000 years to the time of Our Lord in Jerusalem, but rather to His very active presence now, and in your life today. Our Lord means to help you right now, in all the important areas of your life that concern you. Use that time after communion to seek His wisdom.
Your answers will come from His example and offering your own life for the authentic good of others as well, just as He does in the words of the consecration.
I am sure we will all be back in church soon with no restrictions …and everyone who is ready will receive the body and blood of Our Lord.
God Bless!
Fr. Dave

Thank you Father Dave for this reminder of Christ being intimately within us after our communion with him inthe Eucharist. When I hear the statistic that 70% of Catholics believe the Eucharist is only a symbol it saddens me tremendously. If we truly believed that the Body and Blood are truly present our actions would show Christ working in our lives and the Catholic faith would spread like wildfire like it did in the early Church. May Jesus help our understanding of this miracle present at every Mas and especially on this Feast of Corpus Christi.

Dear Father Dave,
Thank you this thoughtful reflection. The reality of receiving the Eucharist is almost too large to comprehend. It is the Christ crucified. It is transcendent love.
God bless you….
