Gospel Reflections for January 31 2021
Face your challenge …and win!
Jesus confronts an evil spirit in today’s Gospel.
He speaks with authority, confidence and self-assurance. Could you do that if you met an evil spirit? Would you feel lost and afraid about how to respond?
I remember the story of a farmer standing by the side of a country road. A sports car from the city roars up and skids to a stop next to him. The impatient driver yells, “Hey farmer! I’m lost here. Do you know how to get to the freeway?” The farmer calmly thinks and replies, “Nope.” The driver responds, “Well, you have got to be the dumbest farmer I ever met! I am lost here and you cannot help! Don’t you know anything at all!?” The farmer calmly thinks and says, “Well …I know I’m not lost!”
Jesus was not lost or afraid in facing any evil. He knew precisely who He was and how to respond. The evil spirit understood that as well, and knew it could not win.
You can have that same assurance, confidence, and authority of Jesus by coming to know and understand the person of Our Lord in your own life in the University Series coming soon during the season of Lent.
We will have 28 different sessions held online from Thursday, February 18th to Friday, March 26th. Check out the schedule at theuniversityseries.org. You can also access the link at our parish website at stbrunochurch.org.
All courses are designed to help you connect faith with real life, and confront any challenges you might face, with His grace, confidence, and self-assurance.
Check out the website and go over the courses listed. I am sure some will jump out at you and say, “This is just the course for me right now!”
Our own St. Bruno Catholic School and School of Religious Education for public school children also equip our students every day with knowledge, wisdom and grace to face every challenge as well, especially during this pandemic. This week we celebrate the amazing work our two schools do every day in forming the next generation to face the world with confidence.
We admire people who have this confidence, and you can have it for yourself …from Our Lord who received it from His Father in heaven.
This week we celebrate our schools …and during Lent we’ll see you soon in the University Series!
God Bless!

I Thank God every day that my folks saw fit to send me to Catholic School. We face different problems in life
and the Education I received prepared me for most of them. Many problems are made easier to endure with
a strong Faith in God and in his Church. I pray for the priests, Nuns and Brothers that I have met and enjoyed
for the vocations they have chosen to follow to assist us in Life and Death.
The Scriptures are filled with Wisdom and good advice and are valuable in what ever state of life we are in.
Thanks for these reminders you issue every week to enhance our lives with their content and meaning.
God Bless!
