Connecting Faith with Real Life

Holy Land Tour Father Dave Heney

Racism in Our World

With every new article I write, I always seek to connect our faith with real life. You already
know that racism and discrimination are terrible behaviors that have hurt people for centuries.
However, thoughtful dialogue is too often missing today when people address it. Fortunately,
our faith has a lot to say about these problems, and can also provide a proven and successful
path forward. I hope you find my latest article helpful in these dramatic times.

Glad you liked it. Yes, the headline paragraph was meant to draw people in.

A real solution in one sentence……..”The only successful answer is from our Lord……seeking lovingly to convert and not violently confront.” Thanks!

Well written. You can’t confront evil with evil, violence with violence. Positive and rightful dialogues/ communications will lead to understandings and changes in people’s hearts, their thinking and reactions.
Each one of us, one at a time, can lend and ear, understand the other’s circumstances and hopefully change the world in a peaceful “Jesus like” manner.

Many thanks for your thoughts on this subject matter. We are rapidly becoming a society of victim-hood and your words are a guide through this evil forest. Many Blessings

Excellent article. I’ve never forgotten the lesson you taught us that there is no such thing as revenge. Just escalation of violence. We pray daily for an end to the pandemic and peace in our communities. Thank you Fr Dave!

Fr. Dave — That was so well said. I pray that this generation will learn from mistakes of past generations and become more open to the message of Our Lord.

Thank you Fr. Dave for reminding us again that Jesus always points us in the right direction when we are confronting chaotic issues. It’s hard to avoid taking the anarchy and hateful rhetoric personally, but when we calm ourselves and focus on His words, we see the way forward. Please keep helping us think clearly!

    Father,
I’m wondering why you chose to focus on those who respond to racism rather than those who inflict it. It seems that your title should have been The Response to Racism in Our World.”

I chose this response because, as Our Lord acknowledges, there will always be evil in the world. What makes the difference is our response. That was the message of Jesus 2000 years ago, and remains our path forward today.

Your article on Racism brought to mind an experience I had in Alaska aboard a Ship I was stationed on in the Coast Guard. The Crew was primarily. From Alabama and a Black Man came aboard that I was friendly with. I could not believe the treatment he received from the southern crew members and obstacles placed before him.
I was labeled a bad word for defending him. The Hate and animosity displayed was shocking to me. Now we were very far North of the Mason Dixon line but the sheer hate was unreal..
I would not have believed what I was experirncing if I had not seen it.
I Prayed for courage to keep helping him as much as I could and a transition bagan that offered acceptance after a few months. It showed me what racism was and it was ugly.
